Check Yourself

It's easy to forget that God doesn't look only at our actions,  but instead he looks at our hearts first!

Proverbs 21:2 People may be right in their own eyes, but the LORD examines their heart

The following are GREAT things that are so important in our growth as Christian, but it's crucial to constantly check yourself to make sure these things are done with the purpose of  growing closer to GOD, verses to make you feel like a "Good Christian."    1.       Going to church Church is a special thing that can have a great influence on your growth as a christian and your knowledge of the bible, but check yourself… are you going because you feel bad if you don’t, or because you want to grow closer to God? If you are going out of guilt, pray that God will give you a desire to go. Make a point to take notes during the sermon and look up the verses later on in your own time.  2.       Attending bible study Bible studies can be a beautiful thing!  If you find yourself going just because you feel that you are “supposed to” then you are missing out on how much that community can offer you. Make an effort to hang out with the people outside of the bible study as well, and make it a point to  be actively participating when your there.  3.       Praying This one can be a huge challenge for me. If I don’t feel like praying I might just say a few words and then be done, and I feel temporarily satisfied that I at least gave God a few second. I'm only hurting myself and the potential God has for me when I do that. God will speak to you in prayer and give you encouragement and visions for the future, it's a shame to never experience that. Don’t let yourself think in terms of “that should be good enough”, give God your best, because that’s what honors him!

Matthew 6:1 Beware of practicing your righteousness before other people in order to be seen by them, for then you will have no reward from your Father who is in heaven.

All this was said not to be harsh or mean, it's a trap I fall into ever single day! I care about all you, and your relationship with God, so I want to bring this to your attention if you struggle with it as well.
